Inversions are an essential component of Iyengar Yoga practice. Sālamba Śīrṣāsana (“king of āsanas”) and Sālamba Sarvāṅgāsana (“queen of āsanas”) restore vibrancy and tranquility to our embodiment. Together, both help to build physiological health and vitality, create hormonal balance and emotional stability, strengthen the spine, quieten the nervous system, and nurture the organic body.
This workshop will provide a foundation for preparing the body and mind to practice inversions in a safe and effective manner. Through the exploration of key preparatory postures, students will learn the fundamental actions required for Śīrṣāsana and Sarvāṅgāsana. Emphasis will be on developing firmness in the legs, and preparing the neck and shoulders. Variations will be presented for different levels of practice, as well as for those with injuries or other physical conditions. The workshop is not suitable for those completely new to yoga. Some previous experience with Iyengar Yoga is recommended. Class size is limited.
